About Academic Coffee

Academic Coffee is a coffee shop in San Jose, California. It is listed at 499 S Second St, San Jose, CA 95113, which places it among the local businesses of San Jose that residents and visitors turn to when they need this kind of service close by.

Coffee in the United States is served by three kinds of places: national chains with drive-thrus and mobile ordering, independent neighborhood cafes that double as a workspace or a meeting spot, and specialty shops that roast their own beans or buy single-origin lots and brew them by pour-over, espresso or cold brew. Most open between 6 and 7 a.m. on weekdays, slightly later on weekends, and the busiest hour is the commute rush before 9. A drip coffee runs a few dollars, espresso drinks and specialty pours more, and tipping a dollar or a percentage on the card reader is customary but not required. Nearly every cafe offers free Wi-Fi, though some limit laptop seating at peak times or on weekends, and outlets are often the scarce resource.

Hours are published for 7 days a week. On most of those days it is open 7 am–4 pm. Hours in the United States do change around federal holidays and long weekends, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. No phone number is listed for this business, so the Google Maps link on this page is the best route for directions and any contact details Google has on file. More information is available on its website, academiccoffee.com.

Customers rate it 4.5 out of 5 on Google across 910 reviews, placing it among the better-regarded coffee shops in San Jose.

San Jose is in California, on the West Coast, where the climate ranges from foggy coast to hot inland valleys, wildfire season can affect air quality in late summer, and traffic is the main thing to plan around. US addresses list the street number and name, then the city, state abbreviation and ZIP code, and San Jose follows the same pattern; a suite or apartment number such as Ste 200 refers to a unit inside the building. The map link on this page shows the exact spot.

One of my go to’s for coffee and matcha. They are consistent in delivering quality lattes and matcha. They don’t skimp on the ingredients and it shows! One thing I also appreciate is their seasonal variations like the banana cream or guava flavors. Always so fresh and well done. You can also tell that management treats the employees well (I hope so) because I see familiar baristas over time and they seem as they enjoy being there. Parking isn’t abundant but doable and the shop is super cute but on the smaller side. It does get quite busy with how good it is so be prepared for a small line.

Welcome to my favorite matcha spot in San Jose! Their banana matcha is hands down my favorite drink here, and it’s the one I always recommend. The banana flavor is perfectly balanced with the matcha, making it creamy, refreshing, and not overly sweet. I also tried the guava matcha, but it didn’t stand out as much, so I’d definitely stick with the banana matcha. They also have a great selection of breakfast pastries that pair perfectly with your drink, plus free wifi if you want to work or study. The store is a bit small but cozy and super cute. Just be prepared for a line on weekends, it may get busy, but it’s absolutely worth the wait!

Don’t really understand the hype, but maybe because i don’t really like flavored matchas. The basic matcha latte seems to be very lacking in matcha flavor and mostly oat milk. i really like how they flavor both the drink and cream top for the flavored matchas. they have a really cute outdoor seating area

A banana flavor that does not rely on imitation banana is surprisingly hard to find. Good thing Academic Coffee knows what's up. The iced latte with banana cold foam was such a great cup, and the pastries were incredible. I highly recommend the buttermilk donut which was somehow crisp on the outside and creamy on the inside. Overall, it's a great shop with great banana drinks and outstanding baked goods. Can't wait to go back and try some new things!

I visited Academic on a Saturday morning around 9 AM. There was a line but it moved quickly. There is a decent amount of indoor and outdoor seating and they are dog friendly. I had the matcha banana latte and loved it. I could definitely taste the matcha - it seemed like a high quality matcha powder and was not bitter. The banana cream tasted so good! It tasted like it was made with real bananas and not extract. I would definitely come back for the matcha banana latte and to try their other matcha drinks.
